Incomplete legalization is one of the top reasons Moroccan files stall: portals reject unclear scans, universities request re-stamping, or visa officers ask for documents that no longer match the admission packet. Treat apostille as a project with its own calendar.

Hague Apostille: what it is (and what it is not)

An Apostille is a standardized certificate that authenticates the origin of a public document for use in other Hague Convention countries. It does not “approve” your grades or guarantee admission. Chinese universities still decide academically; the Apostille only supports document authenticity in the legalization chain they recognize.

  • Typical targets: Baccalauréat, university diploma, transcripts, sometimes non-criminal records (rules vary by issuer)
  • Always start from documents issued by the competent Moroccan authority
  • Keep originals safe; submit high-quality color scans unless paper originals are requested later
  • If a university still lists embassy legalization wording from older guides, email their international office for the current 2026 rule

Translations: English and Chinese

Most application portals ask for certified English translations of Arabic or French originals. Some programs — especially Chinese-taught tracks or specific provincial scholarship forms — also request Chinese translations. Use a sworn / recognized translator; names must match your passport spelling exactly.

  • English: default for most online university and CSC uploads
  • Chinese: only when the program or scholarship form explicitly asks — do not guess
  • Bind logic: keep original language PDF + translation PDF clearly labeled
  • Never edit grades in translation; translators certify wording, not academic decisions

Timing: when to start

  1. 8–12 months before September intake: request fresh certificates that expire (police, medical later)
  2. As soon as Bac / degree is issued: begin notarization / Apostille queue — peak season is crowded
  3. Before CSC / university portals open: have apostilled files + EN translations ready to upload
  4. After admission: check whether visa / JW stage needs the same set or updated versions

Common mistakes Moroccan students make

  • Translating first and legalizing a document that no longer matches the stamped original
  • Using a French-only packet when the portal requires English
  • Cropping the Apostille page out of the scan
  • Name mismatch vs passport (middle names, Arabic transliteration)
  • Waiting until after the CSC deadline to start Ministry / Apostille appointments
