Moroccan families often receive “JW” in WeChat messages without knowing which form applies. Using the wrong checklist — or booking a visa appointment before the JW arrives — wastes fees and weeks in peak summer.

JW201: CSC scholarship students

When you are awarded a CSC scholarship and the university completes the scholarship registration steps, the JW201 (Visa Application for Study in China — scholarship path) is prepared for your visa file. Exact timing depends on CSC results and the university’s processing speed — usually after official award confirmation, not before you apply for CSC.

  • Linked to CSC / Chinese Government Scholarship status
  • Issued through the university’s authorized process after scholarship confirmation
  • Used with Admission Notice for the X1 visa application
  • Does not by itself guarantee visa issuance — consular rules still apply

JW202: self-funded (and many non-CSC) students

Self-funded admits — and many students on university or provincial awards that are not CSC Type A/B government packages — typically receive a JW202. Functionally it plays the same visa-support role as JW201 for the study visa file, but it signals a different funding category to Chinese authorities.

  • Common for tuition-paying international students
  • Also used when the funding source is not CSC JW201-eligible
  • Still requires official university issuance — not a DIY template
  • University-specific rules decide when JW202 is released (deposit, medical, language conditions, etc.)

Originals, scans, and what to carry

  1. Wait for the university to release JW201/JW202 + Admission Notice through official channels
  2. Print / carry originals or the exact format Morocco’s visa channel currently requires
  3. Keep color scans backed up; do not crop seals or serial numbers
  4. Name, passport number, and program dates must match your passport and COVA form

X1 visa note: convert after arrival

X1 is the long-term study visa category (generally for stays over 180 days). After you enter China, universities normally require you to convert the X1 into a residence permit within a short window (commonly discussed around 30 days — follow your school’s orientation instructions). Missing that step risks overstay problems even if entry was legal.

Verify Morocco’s submission channel

Visa application logistics in Morocco can involve the Chinese Embassy / Consulate processes and any appointed visa service center in use for the current period. Requirements, appointment systems, and biometric steps change. Before you pay fees, confirm the channel listed on official Chinese diplomatic pages for Morocco or the authorized center’s site — not informal Facebook groups.

  • Confirm whether appointments are embassy-direct or via a visa center
  • Prepare COVA / online form printouts exactly as instructed that week
  • Bring JW + Admission Notice + passport + photos + any medical forms requested
  • Ask whether originals must be submitted or only shown — rules differ by post and period
